Edge Recording
Failover Edge Recording, when used with Video Insight’s IP Server, avoids losing critical video recording during a temporary loss of connection between IP Server and the camera(s), which will begin recording video locally after detecting the failure.
Once the connectivity between the cameras and IP Server is re-established, the latter will automatically download the recorded video, making it available for playback within VI MonitorPlus once the operation is completed.
Edge Recording was first released on IP Server v. 6.3.7 in response to the growing demand for a reliable access to recorded video during a temporary NVR failure or a temporary loss of network connectivity between the NVR and the IP Camera.
Edge Recording does not work in conjunction with IP Server’s Failover Server.
If Edge Recording and Failover Server are used at the same time, all video recordings for non-Edge cameras will be lost.
Necessary Considerations
To prevent video loss, it is also necessary to assess the overall network equipment needs in order to achieve the successful results with Failover Edge Recording.
In the event of an unforeseen power outage, any camera that is not connected to a power source will not provide Failover Edge Recording due to a lack of power to the PoE switch. Thus, a lack of power to the PoE switch means a lack of power to the Edge Recording camera.
It is important to provide a battery backup system to the switch, or to connect the cameras to an alternative power source to guarantee Edge Recording functioning as designed.
